"The Hall of Shells"
by Mrs. A.S. Hardy
The original 1897 edition, published by D. Appleton and Company, N.Y. in hardbound in green cloth covers with embossed printing and designs on the front cover and the spine, the page size is about 4.25 by 7 inches (11 by 18 cm.), 176 pages and 10 pages of advertisements for other books in this series, the "stories" in the book are illustrated with black and white reproductions of lithographs.
"The Hall of Shells" is one of a series of books designed to educate young readers. It consists of a series of "stories" tied together by a common theme; the mollusks. Each "story" introduces a lot of information about a specific shell or properties shared by a group of shells. Interspersed in the stores are excerpts from poems or classic literature. If you ever wonder about the decline of education in the USA just compare this book to what is generally offered to young readers today. I am assuming that some do read when not absorbed in their telephones or video games. This book shows some shelfware on its cover and the pages have toned. It is otherwise in very fine condition.
