by Maurice Nickles
No ISBN, published in 1950 by Paul LeChavalier Editions, Paris, France about 6 by 9.5 inches (15 by 24 cm), original paper wraps now rebound in blue half-leather binding with hubbed spine, 269 pages, with 464 black and white figures by the author in the textThis book, now 70 years old at the time of this review, is still one of the most useful guides ever written covering the marine mollusks of West Africa. There are drawings and descriptions of 464 species of Gastropods and Bivalves. This is a used book that the previous owner has had bound in an antique style binding with a hubbed leather spine and leather corners. The bind does show some rubbing from shelf-wear and has a few scratches, but this is probably the only copy of this book now preserved like this. The body of the book's pages are slightly yellowed but the text and the illustrations are in a perfect state. The preface page is loose but the binding is tight on all the other pages. A few penciled notations on some pages and penciled circles are drawn around the numbers of some species.
