ISBN 81-8171-050-9, 2005, Zoological Survey of India, hard covers with printed dust jacket, about 7¼ by 9½ inches (18.5 by 24.5cm), 344 pages, 319 b/w photos and 104 color photos in text as well as over 30 line drawings and 7 full page plates in color showing the habitat of the shells.

This is an illustrated guide with good descriptions for about 420 species of the terrestrial molluscs found in India (the authors estimate that about 1500 species of land shells in 140 genera and 34 families are found in India in total). While this book does not specifically concentrate on the endemic species that are found, a large number of the shells illustrated are endemics and this is most important aspect of this book. The color illustrations in this book and the line drawings are clear and crisp but some of the black and white photos lack definition although the major structural features of the shells can be easily seen. These are new copies of this very difficult to find book and the book is itself a very hard to find title. It is an important work covering these mollusks and as far as I can determine it is the most complete work on these shells from India.
