Hawaiian Seashells
by Mike Severns
ISBN 0896104184, 2004, Second Edition, Island Heritage, Swiss Binding (pages are spiral bound and surrounded by a hard laminated board cover), size is 6 by 8.75 inches (about 16 by 22cm), 277 pages, all specimens are illustrated in sharp color photos most with dorsal and ventral views and usually are 3 species per page.
This is a terrific guide book to the marine mollusks that are found in the waters that surround the Hawaiian Islands. It covers the common and rare species in all classes with the exception of the Cephalopods and the shells are shown in very sharp photos, for the most part with dorsal and ventral views. While it is not nearly as complete as Mike Severn’s later work, “Hawaiian Shells” Volume 1 – The Seashells this book will serve the shell collecting community that does not have an intense need for a complete identification guide to these shells. This book is something of a collector’s item now and when it is offered at all it is usually at a ridiculously high price. This is a used copy that looks almost like it is in new condition.
