A Guide to Common Whelks
by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium

No ISBN, sponsored by NOAA and the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, 1987 reprint, paperback, stapled binding, 6 by 9 inches, 15 by 23 cm., not paginated (24 pages by my count), illustrated by 5 black and white drawings

A Guide to Common Whelks" is a curious pamphlet than I have seen for the first time. It contains detailed information about the four species of gastropods in the genus Busycon found off South Carolina. As well as of the shells' descriptions, the book describes and illustrates their egg masses. Lastly, are a few recipes for cooking these mollusks. There is a lot of information in this pamphlet that would form the groundwork for preparing an educational exhibit for a shell show or a library. This is a used copy that is almost like new. There is a small stain on the back cover.
