| World Atlas of Marine Fauna by Rudie H Kuiter & Helmut Debelius
2009, IKAN, laminated board covers with stitched binding, 725 pages, about 8½ by 11 page size (20 by 28cm), color photos of thousands of species of oceanic animals
When we first saw this title we were hesitant about adding this book to our catalog. In the past we've had limited success with books that are not about molluscs. But one look at the book convinced us to give it a try. While about 180 pages of the book are devoted to the Mollusca showing many species from different families alive in their habitat it is possibly the remainder of the book that opens our eyes to the amazing and often times strange forms of animal life share the habitat with the shells. In this book you will see in sharply defined color many of these animals which can be found in the seas in a range from approximately 20° North to about 40° South latitude throughout the seas and oceans of the world. This book will be an invaluable addition to shell collectors who snorkel or dive and will also provide a fascinating look at life under the seas for armchair collectors as well. Of course this book is not comprehensive but it does a great job of representing a generous portion of many forms in the sea. You will note that fish are not included in this book because they were treated in a separate earlier volume by the same authors.
