This is a lot more than just another coffee table book on shells. It is loaded with beautiful illustrations of the use than man has made of shells throughout the ages. From the simplest strand to the elaborate decorative pieces of the baroque era they are all here displayed for your study and enjoyment. To her credit, the author identifies in many cases the shells that have been used in these pieces. Of course this is not always possible since many of the shells are pure fantasy but the effort that went into this book makes it worth far more than the rather modest price that it sells for.
