This is a beautiful book and it is a series of articles by eight authors on the use of and the influence of the scallop shell throughout history and through out many civililizations. It was published by "Shell Oil" as a work commemorating their 60th year in business probably as a presentation item rather than as a book that was sold. Apparantly a lot of these books were produced and I have seen many copies over the years. Never-the-less it makes for some interesting reading. This is a used copy, a bit worn at the edges and rubbed on the front cover.
