| The Complete Encyclopedia of Shells by R.H. De Bruyne
2003, Rebo International, Netherlands, printed laminated boards in printed dust jacket, 336 pages, about 6½ by 9½ inches cover size (17 by 24 cm) about 800 co;or photographs of shells through out the book
This book is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a general guide to shells and shell collecting at a very reasonable price. The book offers a well selected cross section of phylum mollusca (marine species only) and illustrates most of the shells and gives a brief description and some general information (size, range, & etc.) for them. The author, a Dutch malacologist seems to know his stuff. Sadly though while the photographs seem to be sharp, their colors are often"muddy" which probably was a compromise reached to enable the book to come out at a low price. It is nice to have a book in this price range that is not geared to children. It is a serious book aimed at new collectors and the introductory section is especially nicely done.
