| Tasmanian Shells by W.L. May revised by J.Hope Macpherson
1958 revision of 1923 edition, D.E. Wilkensen, Govt. Printer, paper covers, stapled 50 pages plus index, 50 plates of b/w drawings ½ page size with key to plates on other half of the page, page size is about 9¾ by 7¼ inches (25 by 18.5cm)
This is a very useful guide to the shells that are found in the waters of Tasmania and this revision contains 3 plates that did not appear in the original 1923 printing. Although many of the illustrated specimen are small the original plates done by May in 1921 show remarkably good detail and the additions are equally good. The book is basically an illustrated check list of these species and about 1050 shells are illustrated and the key contains the name, author and the generalized locality and notes on where they are found and where felt important, the distinguishing features of the shell. |
