Description
Spiny Oysters
A Revision of the Living Spondylus Species of the World
by Kevin Lamprell

Limited Edition of 500 copies, privately printed, Australia, 2006. 119 pages about 8" by 11.5 " (20 by 29cm) bound in laminated boards, 41 color plates for specimen identification full size, other color photos, line drawings

This is the final version of Lamprell's studies of this family. It is expanded and revised from his earlier book "Spondylus" which up to the present time has been the standard reference book for this beautiful family of shells. The author passed away in 2003 and this book is a privately printed numbered edition that is a tribute to the man and his work. Lamprell also was the senior author for both volumes of "Australian Bivalves". One of the outstanding features of this work (and the previous work on this family) is that Lamprell shows us many examples of each of the species in this family. As you know, these shells can vary greatly if their color and their form and they are often very difficult to separate one from another. For those of you who already own the earlier work you may want to ad a copy of this book to your library too. While the additions and revisions are not all that great, there is enough new material in this book to make it worth your while.
