| Southeast Asian Conus by Lim Chuan Fong & Victor T.H. Lee
1992, Seaconus Publishing, Singapore, hardcover with dust-jacket, about 20.5 by 29.5cm (8¼ by 11½ inches) 100 pages, 27 full page color plates each depicting 8 species
This book when it first appeared received very little favorable response and very limited circulation. I suspect that it was a limited printing and was out of print not very long after it was published. Today it is one of the most sought after books on the Conidae and it is perhaps the one that is most difficult to find. It is not a great reference book nor are its photographs particularly well done. Printing and photographic techniques were a lot better than what you see here. It contains very little information about the shells that are illustrated. But this book has taken on a life of its own almost more as a collectible book than as a reference book. As such the book has taken on a great deal of increased value and today as I am writing this I see a used copy offered on Amazon.com for over $850.00 (not including shipping). I guess that this book is missing from most shell libraries and that is about the best recommendation that I can give it. |
