| Shells of the Western Pacific in Color by T. Kira & T. Habe
2 volume set 1964, Hoikusha, hard covers with printed dust jacket, 224 & 233 pages, about 7½ by 10¼ inches (about 18.5 by 26 cm) page size, volume 1 has 72 page size full color plates and volume 2 has 66 page size color plates
This is a marvelous set of books which identify, describe and illustrate over 1700 species of mollusks found in the Western Pacific and mainly those that are found in Japan. The study mainly concentrates on marine shells but some coverage of terrestrial and freshwater mollusks is included. These books are entirely in English and the descriptive material is thorough and general locality data and size ranges for each species are given. Although these books are long out of print they remain today an invaluable source of information on the shells found in this part of the world. These are used books and have the previous owner's name written on the front flyleaf. The jacket of volume 2 has seen some wear and tear but the jackets of both volumes are covered in a protective plastic jacket to protect them against further damage. The body, and the plates can easily pass as new. |
