| Seashells of Southern Arabia by Donald & Eloise Bosch
1989, Motivate Publishing, UAE., paperback with cardboard covers, about 7¾ by 10¾ inch size (about 19.5 by 27.5cm), about 110 pages including 15 introductory pages in English and 15 introductory pages in Arabic. Text through out the book is in English and in Arabic. There are 2 to 5 color photos and descriptions of individual molluscan species on each of the pages.
This book is perhaps the least know book on the shells from this region by Don & Eloise Bosch who for many years lived and worked in Oman. This book is part of a series that was done intended to be field guides to the most common forms of the fauna and flora of the Arabian Peninsula. As far as we know it is also the first such guide written in Arabic. It is a very well researched and informative book not only as a guide to the shells from the area but also has tips on collecting and preserving shells as well as having a lengthy section on first aid for shellers and dangerous creatures that shellers may encounter. Dr. Bosch is a physician and Eloise helped him in his practice so the first aid section is extensive and useful. The photos are clear and the shell descriptions are well written. This is a used copy and it is autographed by Eloise Bosch and inscribed to the book's previous owner. The spine is cracked and one or two pages in the center of the book came partially loose and have been repaired. There is a slight bend in the front cover at the top and the bottom edges. |
