| Sea Shells of Western Europe by Ph. Bouchet, F. Danrigal & C. Huyghens
1979, American Malacologists, laminated boards, about 5 by 7¼ inches (13 by 18.5 cm) 144 pages, includes color photos of living animals and 11 page sizedplates incolor for shell identification
This is a very nicely done guide to the shells from the Straits of Dover , south to the Spanish coastline on the Atlantic and north through the coasts of France and the low countries. The book is divided with the first part being mainly introductory material, the second part gives us a look at some the living mollusks that are found in the different ecological zones of this part of the world and the final part is an identification guide to these shells. The photographs of the living shells are extraordinary. This art of the world does not have a very rich molluscan fauna but it is very nice to have this book to help in the classification and study of these shells. These are used copies but they look as if they are brand new. |
