Description
Pleurotomariidae
-
a three volume set
by
W. Fischer
This private publication is going to appeal to advanced collector's of the slit shells and to those interested in the geological history of these primitive shells The first volume "A picture book for slit shell collectors" examines the recent species and shows some of the fossil ancestors of these shells. It also offers a look at how these fossils are collected and it has a family "tree" of these shells from the triassic to the recent geological age. Text is in German and English there are no pager numbers but the book consists of about 64 pages, ost of them full color plates. The second volume is a review and classification of these shells as they were originally classified by Hudleston in 1895 and earlier by D'Orbigny again about 64 pages (not numbered) and profusely illustrated mostly with drawings and some color photos. This volume is largely in English The last volume "Memoire sur Les Pleurtomaires" (about 100 pages) is mostly in French (and some Latin) which is an reprint and examination of the work of Eudes-Deslongchamps (published 1840) and this work is compared with some recently excavated fossil shells. The three books are published in 2005 and they are bound in laminated cardboard covers. The photographs and drawing are exceptionally fine and the page size is 20 by 27 cm.
