Description
A Field Guide to the
Non-Marine Molluscs of the Mascarene Islands
(Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion and the Northern Dependencies of Mauritius)
by Owen L. Griffiths & Vincent F.B. Florens

2006, Owen Griffiths, hardbound in laminated boards, 185 pages, about 7¼ by 9½ inches (18 by 24.5 cm),  includes 32 plates of which 23 are in color all full page size

Although this book was published a few year ago these are the first copies that i have been able to get  and I can say without hesitation that they are a welcome addition to my catalog. The book is a wonderful guide to the 250 species of non-marine mollusks found in this part of the world and sadly as the authors point out it is a population of shells that is vanishing. The shells are well described and beautifully illustrated in color and in black and white drawings. The book also has excellent distribution maps for native and endemic species and a table giving the geographic distribution of these species. Anyone interested in non-marine shells should own this book. Please note that the special sale price is for a few copies that were damaged in shipping. There are some bumps at the corner edges of these copies but the body of the book is in perfect condition.
