This is a very important work and should be in th elibrary of everyone who is interested in the recent and fossil molluscan fauna of the Eastern United States and the Caribbean Sea. Of special interest to those of us intrested in the shell sof the Recent era are the more than 100 species of shells that Dr. Petuch describes as "living fossils". Shells probably on the verge of extinction that have managed to maintain themselves in isolated pockets of the seas today. As well as a detailed classification of the shells (living and extinct) are the descriptions of more than 48 new species of mollusks, many belonging to the "major" families Conidae, Volutidae, Muricidae, and etc. This one is an ex-library copy with a catalogue number on the spine several library stamps obliterated on the front flyleaf and the title page and "withdrawn" stamps on these pages as well" Body of the book is as new. |
