| Natural Cuba by Alfonso Silva Lee
1996, Pangaea, USA, bilingual (Spanish & English) hardcover with dust jacket, about 6½ by 10 inches (about 17 by 25cm), 173 pages illustrated with 112 color photographs of varying size, 4 drawings and 2 maps
This is another remarkable book and one of great beauty that slipped by unnoticed until we came across this single copy. First of all though, it is not a shell book per se. Of course no book on Cuban wildlife would be complete without mentioning the remarkable land shells that live there. It is a look at some of the extraordinary and often unique wildlife found living in Cuba. The author is a naturalist who began his career and 25 year love affair with the flora and fauna of his native land as a marine biologist specializing in fish. The book is beautifully illustrated mostly with the author's photos and his writing let's the reader share his enthusiasm and love of what he is describing. I only wish we had know about this book while it was still in print. It is a work that will be appreciated by anyone with an interest in natural history. The book is in "as new" condition but there are some creases on the inside fold of the book jacket. |
