by K.M. De Jong & H.E. Coomans
1988, E.J. Brill, Leiden, cloth covers with printed dust jacket, 6¼ by 9¼ inches (16 by 24 cm), 260 pages, 47 pages of plates, drawings and photographs
This book covers 745 species of Gastropods, Opisthobranchs and Pulmonates collected from the three Dutch Islands located off the coast of Venezuela. The molluscan fanua of this part of the Caribbean is somewhat different than the fanuna found typically throught out the Caribbean and this book gives us a look at 58 species that were previously not known to science. Although the book illustrates only 480 of the species found reference to the other species are given where they can be found in other books that cover Caribbean mollusks. Many of the species found in this book are very small in size and effective use of a scanning electron microscope has been made to help identify these species. Shell collecting is now prohibited in these islands but this book gives us a good insight as to what shells live in these waters. This is a brand new copy of this scarce work. |
