Marine Bivalves of Tropical West America
by R. von Cosel & S. Gofas

ISBN 978-2-85653-888-3, published in 2019 by Publications Scientifiques du Museum IRD Editions, Paris, France, case bound (hardcover in laminated boards), about 16 by 24 cm., (6.25 by 9.5 inches), 1102 pages,

This is a survey of  more than 450 species of marine bivalves found from Mauritania to Angola thoroughly described and illustrated, as well as an additional 150 deep-sea species that are listed but not described in this book. The species covered are very well illustrated and the book contains 3500 color photographic illustrations as well as 1600 greyscale photographs and 800 stippled drawings. It contains interior and exterior views of the specimens and the description of the species contains a diagnostic drawing showing the details of each of the shells. This is a monumental work by two well know biologists of specimens collected over several decades that are now housed in the Museum of Natural History, in Paris. The low price of this book is made possible by a subsidy from the Museum. Make room for it on your bookshelf. This is an essential reference work to shells, which for the most part, are shells we seldom see in our collections.
