This is the first (and many claim the better) of the two books done by Burgess on this family. This book was the authoritative word on this widely popular group of shells from the time that it appeared in 1970 and there are many who still believe that it is the best work ever on these shells. The book is long out of print and very few copies ever re-surface for resale. It is a large book with a page size that is about 9 by 12.25 inches. It is hard bound cloth with a printed dust jacket. The text is on 389 pages and there are 44 full color plates. This is a very nice and very clean copy but there are some signs or shelf wear along the edges and the dust jacket has several tears and there are some owners stamps on the front fly leaf. The body of these books is almost as new.
