By Johannes Thiele

Translated by Rudiger Bieler & Paula Mikkelsen

No ISBN , 1992, translation published by The Smithsonian Institution Libraries and the National Science Foundation, Washington D.C., 4 parts bound in 3 volumes hard covered in cloth binding with printed dust jackets,1690 pages in total, about 6 by 9 inch page size, (about 14.5 by 23cm) illustrated throughout with black and white line drawings and low resolution black and white photographs.

It has been a very long time since we’ve been able to offer a copy of this seminal work on molluscan classification which forms the basis for all subsequent classification systems in use today. The original work in German was written by Thiele in the years between 1929 to 1935 and it appeared in four parts which are here combined into three volumes. The work has been translated into English by Rudiger and Mikkelsen to make it more accessible for use and to give it broader circulation than the original work had. Prior to this translation this set of books was reprinted in German in 1963. This work is considered to be an indispensable reference work for workers and students involving malacological taxonomy to the sub-generic level. Some of the classification concepts in this book have changed over the years in subsequent works. We consider it a bit of good fortune that two complete sets that were long stored away have come to light for us to offer. The books are new but a few of the books have bumped corners. Each book in every set has been autographed by Paula Mikkelsen .
