| The Freshwater Mussells of Tennessee by Paul W. Parmalee & Arthur E. Brogan
1998, University of Tennessee Press, Knoxville, laminated boards, 328 pages, about 8¼ by 10¼ inches (20 by 25.5cm) about 133 color plates ¼ page size with b/w dist. maps , tables throughout.
I was very happy to be able to find one new copy of this now out of print work that covers the very rich freshwater molluscan shells in the family Unionidae that are found in the waters of Tennessee. This is the first full study of these shells that were once a commercially important part of Tennessee's wealth and it is an excellent guide to the biology, distribution and taxonomy of these shells. The authors are recognized experts in their field and since going out of print this book has become very hard to find. It makes an excellent companion book to the soon to be published book on the freshwater mollusks of Alabama. This copy is new but careless packing has resulted in a bumped corner on the upper back side of the book.
