This book is a beautiful book that was produced as part of a series by the Japanese Fisheries Industry. This volume deals with the edible and commercially important Bivalves from Japanese waters and it thoroughly examines every aspect of the shells, their collection or "farming" and their use. To say that this is an elaborate book would actually be a gross understatement. The photography is superb and the book serves to remind us that these shells like many of our coastal resources live in a fragile environment that must be protected if we want to continue to use them. While the book covers only slightly more than 100 species it also gives us a look at the harvesting and the use of these shells that is rarely covered in any other shell book. This appears to be a new book but has a booksellers catalog number on the flyleaf and on a blank page before the title page. |
