Description
Encyclopedia of Texas Seashells
Identification, Ecology, Distribution & History
by John W. Tunnell Jr., Jean Andrews, Noe C. Barrera & Fabio Moretzsohn

2010, Texas A&M University, laminated board covers with stitched binding, 512 pages, about 8½ by 11 inch page size (21.5 by 28cm), 900 species in color illustration as well as numerous other color illustrations as well as maps and charts

This book was a long time in coming and now that it is here I think that we can all agree that this book was worth waiting for. We feel that this book is destined to take its place as one of the best shell books ever done and it is about to become the standard reference  work on the mollusks found off the Texas coast. In all the book contains sharp photographic illustrations and  identifications and descriptions of 900 molluscan species of all types. Each shell has its habitat, size and remarks alongside the shells' illustration making the book a pleasure to use. Additional information about each of the shell families is given before the shells in the family are illustrated and discussed. The opening two chapters contain a lot of information that will be valuable to new and experienced collectors and also contain a history of the use of shells in Texas throughout its history.  The current events with the oil spill and the yet to be seen future of marine life in the Gulf of Mexico makes this book all the more important and timely.
