Isaac Lea was one of the foremost naturalists and conchologists of his time and was the author of several papers and studies of the Unionidae. This is a very scarce work and I could not find a listing for another copy of it offered for sale recently. It appeared as a publication of the Academy of Natural Sciences as New Series, Vol. VIII, Part 1 and it consists of two articles by Lea. This copy is in very good overall condition but there is some toning to the paper and some slight foxing that has occured on the back cover and also on th elast few plates near the front edges and not having any effect on the plates themselves. The plates are beautifully lithoographed and highly detailed as one would expect to find in a work by Lea.
