Cowries of the World
by C. (Pat) Burgess

ISBN 9780620054836, published in 1985 by  Gordon Verhoef, Seacomber Publications, Cape Town, South Africa in 1985.

This is the second of Burgess' two major works on the Cypraea and there are many collectors today who find that this book is still the "state of the art" publication on this popular family of shells. It was published in 1985 and it is hard bound (laminated board) 21 by 30 cm size book of 289 pages. Well illustrated throughout the book in color are the 202 species that the author considers to be valid  There are distribution maps for each of these shells and there are other plates showing abnormalities and melanistic and rostrate shells as well as taxa considered to be invalid. There is a full discussion of each species.   This is a used copy that appears to be almost new. Although these books has been used, they easily can pass as new. These copies contain an extensive erata listing and other information by the author.
