This book is a superb reference work. Written to appeal to both the specialist scientific community and to amateur students of corals and marine life this book does a remarkable job of this task. The descriptive material and the photographs and drawings are of top quality and it provides descriptions and photos of almost 1000 coral species found off Australia and in the Indo-Pacific. The photos are of a large size and often are spread across more than two pages of the book. Generally the plates illustrate the corals with their polyps extended, withdrawn and also in highly detailed close ups. The author is an expert coral reef biologist with more than 25 years experience in this field when this book was published. Except for some very light wear at the edges of the dust-jacket, this can easily pass as a new copy.
