| Cone Shells from Cape Verde Islands A Difficult Puzzle by D. Rðckel, E. Rolán & A.Monteiro
1980, private printing, stiff paper covers, glued binding, about 6 by 8¼ inches (15 by 21 cm) 155 pages and 8 color photographic plates, also black & white photos, drawings and maps through out text.
In the Cape Verde Islands which lie far off the West African coast a vast number of shells in the Conidae can be found. These shells are found in a great diversity of colors, sizes and shapes most likely because of their geographic separation from any of the "mainland" species and because of their habitat which to a great extent separate these shells from one another. It is a debatable point if these shells are separate species as proposed in this book or if they are thought of as color and pattern morphs within a species. It is a very interesting book and indeed as the subtitle of this book calls them, "a difficult puzzle". The color plates in this book are very good but the black and white photos are often poorly reproduced making their use for identification rather limited. The line drawings where used give a much better image of these shells. These are used copies of this book one in almost new condition and the other with some stains and discoloration on the cover. The first order will get the nicer copy but both of these are good working copies with text and plates intact. |
