This book is the
largest and most
beautiful in this series by Dr. Cossignani and as it is with the
others, it is a catalog presentation of many of the beautiful
objects to be seen in the Museo Malacologica Piceno in Cupra
Marittima, Italy which is outside of Rome. The objects shown in this
book come from many parts of the world but the greatest number of them
are of European origin. There is a great overview of things in this
catalog from primitive fishhooks to modern high fashion jewelry but the
common theme is, as it is in the other books in this series is that all
of these beautiful objects are made in whole or in part from shells or
from their inner "mother of pearl" layer or from the pearls made by the
shells. The text is in Italian but the real purpose of the
book
is to simply enjoy these beautiful examples of mans use of shells for
beauty and for adornment. I "test marketed" a few copies of this book
at a shell show in 2006 and I was amazed at how quickly they sold. I
guess that there is something in all of us that at some
subconscious level makes us stop and pick up that shell on
the
beach and to admire it for its beauty and for its structure. This book
is merely one step beyond that...
