Compendium of Florida Fossil Shells
Middle Miocene to Late Pleistocene Marine Gastropods
by Edward J. Petuch & Mardie Drolshagen
2011, published by MdM Publishing, Wellington, FL., DVD in slim plastic "jewel case"
.This volume covers the families Strombidae, Cypraeidae, Ovulidae, Eocypraeidae, Triviidae, Conidae and Conolithidae.
When complete this will be the largset and most complete study of the rich and varied shell fossil fauna found in Florida. Mardie Drolshagen is an expert photographer who has developed a way to bring out the patterns in many of the shells in this book bringing them "alive" in a degree not seen in any other paleontological work on these shells. As well as being an identification guide to these fossil shells other sections included in this volume are an introduction to fossil shell collecting in the Everglades, a study of the geologic framework of Southern Florida, and the Paleoceanography of the Okeechobean Sea.

An Impressive Undertaking
Ed delivers some great information in this one. Great history or prehistoric Florida, overviews of collecting sites, clear breakdowns of genra and species (which this volume introduces many of) in some of the most popular families, all of which I found a fun and engaging read! Mardie's photos are fantastic and alone are well worth the $20 cost of admission! If you have even the slightest interest in fossil shells you really can't go wrong with this. Really looking forward to the coming volumes.
