by Shi Chiong, Gou Bingzhen, & Peng Chao
ISBN 9787306061959, published in 2018 by Zongshan University Press, hardcover in laminated boards, A4 size (20 by28.5 cm. or 8 by 11.25 inches) 293 pages, color photo illustrations of 243 species, 2 per page showing dorsal and ventral views, basic information about the shells is in Chinese.
This book is one that will serve the needs for photo identiication for most general collectors but will not satisfy the needs of advanced cone collectors. The species in this book range from the common to the rare, but it is far from a complete survey of this large family of shells. The shells are well illustrated and the photos are clear and large. The shells are presented alphabetically and there is a complete index with their scientific names in the back of the book. The first pages of the book which are in Chinese only, present a greatly detailed overview of the shells with a great emphasis on the conotoxins which are an area that is becoming increasingly important for their medical uses. It would be wonderful if this 100 plus page section could be translated for the contents of this section to be universally available to researchers. It is remarkable though to find a book of this size and this quality offered at this low a price. These are new books but there are some small bumps in a few of the corners that occured during their shipping.
