by Alberto Carcelles
1944, La Plata, Argentina, in Spanish, paper covers, extract from Revista del Museo de la Plata, new series, volume 3, zoology #23, 72 pages numbered from 233 to 305 and 15 pages of black and white photographic plates and their keys, size is about 6˝ by 9˝ inches (16.5 by 24 cm).
This is a very important work and still one of the very few books with information and identification of the shells from southern Argentina. This copy was n the collection of the explorer and naturalist Walter Eyerdam and it has his address label on the front cover and his signature on the title page. He also makes a notation on the first page that the shells throughout the book are marked X. It is interesting to see that he was able to acquire so many specimens from this region at a time when collecting techniqes and possibilities were extremely difficult compared to what we have today. There are some torn spots on the front cover and the cover is now slightly discolored. The pages are slightly toned at their edges but the plates look remarkably new.
