| Bivalve Seashells of Florida by Trish Hartmann
2006, Andara Press, USA,paper covers,183 pages, 5.5 by 8.5 (14 by 21.5cm) page size, 167 species on full color plates.
This new publication is one that is going to appeal to casual beachcombers and to advanced shell collectors too. It is an excellent guide to the bivalve shells found in the Southern US waters. The shells that are included are very nicely described and the photographs are very sharp and uncrowded. There is a very well written introductory section which covers the anatomy of the shells, their habitat, nomenclature, collecting and in short, just about everything that you want to know about these shells. This is an excellent book and it has received nothing but highly favorable comments from people who have seen it on our tables at several of the Florida shell shows. It is also refreshing, in this day and age when the publishers seems to be playing "can you top" this with the price of shell publications, to find a book like this at a very reasonable price. |
