Africa:
Misteri & Conchiglie
by Tiziano
Cossignani
2005,
Museo Malacologico Piceno, Cupra Marittima, Italy, laminated
board covers , sewn binding,
160 pages, color photos throughout, page
size is 8.25 by 11.5 inches (21 by 30cm)
This book is in many
respects a companion to the author's earlier work "Conchiglie, Maschere e Misteri",
but this time all of the masks and artifacts shown are from Africa
while in the earlier book they cam e for the greater part from
Papua-New Guinea. To simply say that the objects presented in this book
are superb does not really do them justice. These are some of
the
most fantastic and top quality objects of African
tribal
art I've seen assembled in a single book. And as in the other works in
this series the photography and printing present these
objects to
us with great clarity. Apart from a one page introduction (in Italian)
the book is a photographic catalog of man's use of shells in art and in
personal ornamentation and in ritual and in magic.
