| A Systematic Classification of the Gastropod Family Conidae at the Generic Level by A.J. da Motta
1991, La Conchiglia, Rome, Italy, in French and English, paper covers, stitched binding, 48 pages, about 8¼ by 11½ inches (21 by 29.5 cm) many color illustrations throughout, plates are about ½ of each page.
Over the years there have been several attempts to classify the family Conidae at a sub-familial level. This book is an attempt to accomplish that at a generic level by the author who assembled a very large Cone collection and described many new species of cones based on his studies. His contributions to the molluscan literature are debatable and I'd say that the greater part of his newly described species are today regarded as synonyms of other species. This attempt at a generic classification is also probably of dubious value. The family is divided into 8 genera based upon the shape of the outline of the shell. Examples of each genus are illustrated and a "cut out figure" of a blank shell is given for each of the genera. The genera are further divided into 60 sub-genera but these are only given in a listing in an index. I think that this book is important to Cone specialists and unfortunately this happes to be a very rare book these days. It is one of those titles that went in and out of print very quickly and this is th eonly copy that I have seen in a very long while. The front cover is creased and there is a curling at the top and bottom edges of the pages.
