| A Monograph of the Naiades of Pennsylvania - Part III Systematic Account of the Genera & Species by Arnold E. Ortmann
1919, Carnegie Museum, Pittsburg, paper wraps, 385 pages including 21 black and white full page photographic plates, page size is about 10 by 13 inches (about 26 by 33cm)
This is the third part of Ortmann's study of the Unionidae found in Pennsylvania, The first part (1911) dealt with the anatomy and the second part was a rearrangement of the Naiadae and in this, the third part of this study is the systematics (genera and species) of these shells. Parts of this work are available as now as reprints since this is a work that is of key importance to the later studies of the shells that followed it, but I am able to find only a single original copy of this third part offered for sale now. The paper covers have taken a beating and the edges of the pages are a little ragged. The spine and covers are taped together but the body of the book and the plates are in very choice condition. |
